Why We Do
Art Supplies, Seeds, Equipment....more
Lúta collects staple foods for distribution in grassroots American Indian communities,
primarily South Dakota and Montana. Desired food items serve nutritional and traditional
needs: Rice, flour, pasta, unsweetened breakfast cereals (including cream of wheat and
oatmeal), dried beans, dried fruits, canned soups and vegetables, coffee, tea, baby food
and cereal, bottled fruit juices, canned berries (blueberries, boysenberries and
raspberries), vegetable oils. Unsweetened, low-fat, low-salt and whole grain products are
preferable. We also seek funds to pay for trucking expenses and to purchase perishable
foods closer to delivery points. If youre interested in organizing a food drive,
please contact us.
Cankú Lúta, in the language of the Lakota people, means Red Road. The Red Road is the Good Road of Life, the path that we aspire to walk with our children and their children, and ALL OUR RELATIONS.
