Grassroots Self-Sufficiency Initiative
Canku Luta realizes that occasional food drives don't solve the
problem of hunger and poverty in Indian Nations. Our long-range goals include helping to
provide the material support necessary for American Indians to start businesses and become
self-sufficient.
Besides monetary donations for small seed grants, we seek all types of gift in-kind
donations for start-up supplies and basic necessities. Donations can be shipped to Canku
Luta, Red Road, Inc., P.O. Box 1032, Madison, IN 47250, or please contact us for a street
address for UPS or about large donations. Donations can be shipped directly to the
reservation areas, but please check with us for a current shipping address.
Canku Luta is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Please consult your accountant
for information about whether your donation is fully tax-deductible.
Gift In-Kind Donations Needed:
The Arts - Fabric for Star Quilts, Quilt Batting, King &
Queen Flat Sheets for Quilts, Sewing Machines, Scissors, Rotary Cutters, Needles, Thread,
Paints, Canvas, Beads, Small Tools, etc.
Equipment and Office Supplies - Telephones, Fax Machines,
Computers, Printers, Software, Answering Machines, Typewriters, Copy Machines, Cameras
(Digital, 35mm and disposable), Film, Batteries . (We ask that equipment be in good
working order, as our budget does not allow for repairs.) Also needed are all types of
office supplies.
Food Self-Sufficiency - Seeds, Gardening Tools, Canning
Supplies, etc.
Building Supplies - All types of building supplies for
repairs and construction are needed, including lumber, paint (please, no lead paints), any
types of tools, etc. (In the areas we serve, a large percentage of American Indians are
homeless or live in sub-standard conditions without water, electricity, or heat).
Cankú
Lúta, in the language of the Lakota people, means Red Road. The Red Road is the Good Road
of Life, the path that we aspire to walk with our children and their children, and ALL OUR
RELATIONS. |
